Autumn and winter are arguably the most gorgeous time of the year but the cold weather can be harsh on our fragile skin so while you sip on your pumpkin spiced latte, why not treat your skin to a little autumnal tlc with a homemade autumnal facial scrub.
I love fresh, natural products and over the years I’ve played around and experimented with creating my own beauty products. Knowing what I’m putting on my skin is cruelty free, natural and won’t break me out is a relief. This scrub brightens, tightens and makes your skin glow in the harsh autumnal wind, not to mention leaves your skin moisturised. This recipe doesn’t leave you with a lot of product so you can be sure your face scrub will be fresh and not wasted.
Here’s what you’ll need:
25 ml freshly squeezed orange juice.
1/2 rind of an orange
2 tblspn coarse sea salt
1 tspn cinnamon
½ tspn nutmeg
1 tblspn olive oil
The orange juice helps brighten and cleanse the skin as well as giving a gorgeous orangey scent. The orange peel is perfect for a gentle exfoliating scrub as well as the salt. Salt also helps balance the production of oil on your skin and the antibacterial qualities helps to keep spots at bay.
A touch of olive oil blends everything together nicely and ensures your skin is kept naturally moisturised. You could substitute olive oil for coconut oil but it can overpower the gorgeous citrus scent. Speaking of scents, adding a little cinnamon and nutmeg will just add that extra cream on the pumpkin pie to make your scrub that little more delicious!
- Grate or blend half an orange peel coarsely and put it into your tub.
- Add salt, cinnamon and nutmeg to the peel and mix to a paste.
- Squeeze and measure 25ml of fresh orange and mix it with the peel and add the olive oil. Whisk it together until it’s combined.
See, easy as one, two, three! All you have to do now is take a scoop of your fresh new scrub and gently rub in circular upwards motion on clean, make up free skin and wash away with warm water. Avoiding your eyes of course. No matter how good it smells, just remember not to eat it!
